Workcenter 7775 Keeps Prompting for Initial Setup/Confirmation at LCD Panel

I have a client who keeps having a number of issues with a Workcenter 7775. The LCD panel seems to regularly prompt him to confirm the basic copier settings, like they aren't being saved or retained.    He's had some paper jams at the finisher and has mentioned he needs to confirm everything again once the jam is cleared.  Anyone have any good input?

Versant 80 Prints colors in white background

Hello,

I have been having an issue for the past couple weeks, which is very noticeable on long runs. Once I print upwards of a hundred sheets or so, I start to see colors printing lightly in the background accross the entire sheet. It gets worse and worse the more sheets we print in the same run. It is prominently in one color, but the issue does move with the drum if we swap 2 drums. Swapping out for a new drum seems to clean it up temporarily, but it comes back quickly. Also, letting the machine sit for a while seems to clean it up too. The problem is we have about 15 hours of printing to get done over the next 2 days, so we can't be stopping every 100 sheets, and we certainly don't have enough drums to only be getting 5% life out of them. Any suggesttions? The tech has already swapped out the fuser belt and all the devleoper housings.

Thank you!

Phaser 7500 DT - issues to auto-sense paper size in trays 4 and 5

Hi,

Our Phaser 7500 DT has problems auto detecting the paper sizes in trays 4 and 5. When the tray is set to "letter SEF" it will sense "letter LEF". For the most part is will show "A4 LEF" (which seems to be the default). It will also sense "letter LEF" when the tray is set to 12x18 or even 8.5x8.5. We will never get e.g. "tabloid" in any of the positions.

Trays 4 and 5 have the exact same issue, even when we exchange the trays (e.g. 8.5 x 8.5 tray setting will display as "letter LEF"). When we insert tray 5 into the slot for tray 3 it works perfectly so a tabloid tray setting displays a tabloid paper size.

The trays seem to not be the issue and it appears unlikely that both sensors (for tray 4 and 5) have the exact same faulty behavior.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be? We purchased the printer used so it's not factory new but was fully checked by authorized personnel.

Thanks!

I have a printer that will only print color on certain PDF's, and when it does print those PDF's it prints them in booklet format, no matter what settings.  When I print from websites, excel, powerpoint, it won't print color.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

"Shaded" Print

Hello guys, i am having some trouble with my Xerox Phaser 6000. The print is "shaded", i'll be uploading an image.

This happens since i first got my unit from a friend, it was a used machine, not sure how much time of usage, but it didn't happen so frequently and this is starting to bother me, because i need a high quality print for some college stuff and i'm not getting it.

Any idea what is happening? Any place to start looking for the problem ?

Server-Based Global Print Drivers with GPO only partially deploy to workstations

Hi All,

This is a cross-post of the end of a discussion from here:

http://forum.support.xerox.com/t5/Printing/Global-Print-Driver-In-Place-upgrade-of-Non-Versioned-drivers/m-p/204948/highlight/true#M14426

Joe was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction on how to use the XML tool to set configurations for Server Deployed drivers and Group Policy deployment.

My renewed interest in this old thread was predicated by the purchase of a (most excellent, by the way) brand new Xerox VersaLink B405 DN as an addtion to rather than a replacement for one of our two existing Xerox MFCs

We have the ColorQube 9303 and an older WorkCentre 3550

All PCs printing to the ColorQube and WorkCentre are using locally-installed and configured GPD drivers

Though I began a push last year to uninstall any that were instantiated as versioned and reinstall them as Non-Versioned, I have not completed that process.

Further, all of the existing locally-installed GPD deployments whether instatiated as Versioned or Non-Versioned, were from these two installers:

X-GPD_5.469.9.0_PCL6_x64.exe

X-GPD_5.469.9.0_PS_x64.exe

With the new VersaLink, rather than giving in to the pressure of doing what I know, and going to each PC and running the installer and configuring it separately, I decided that people can wait until I do this right, and do it in a way that will utlimately save huge amounts of redundant work, and keep all the xerox print drivers in lockstep and easily upgraded to the latest versions.

Environment:

  • Active Directory domain where the newest version of windows for any of our member servers or DCs is 2008 R2
  • We have a Server 2008 R2 VM which serves as a network management platform, running Spiceworks, WSUS, Our remote consoles for StorageCraft ImageManager and ShadowProtect SPX management, etc.
  • Windows 7 Professional 64bit on all workstations (no laptops in our environment for all intents and purposes)
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection centrally managed and hosted from a dedicated Server 2008 R2 VM, and running on all PCs
  • Gigabit Ethernet backbone on a flat subnet

Plan:

  • Install Print Management role on said Network Management VM
  • Install the new B405 printer driver with both PS and PCL6 queues in Non-Versioned mode on that server using driver installer UNIV_5.520.6.0_PCL6_x64.exe and UNIV_5.520.6.0_PS_x64.exe
  • Share them and list in directory
  • Go to Advanced tab on the server queues printer properties dialog and set the Printing Defaults as we would like them to be at deployment time on end user PCs
  • Configure it so end users can later change their own printing preferences defaults in Devices and Printers
  • Deploy the the printer drivers, queues, and defaults using GPO, on a per Computer (not per user) basis.
  • Expectation being that any existing locally installed 5.469.9.0 Non-Versioned GPD queues for the ColorQube and WorkCentre would all pick up the 5.520.6.0 driver as it will have replaced the 5.469.9.0 one by nature of how Non-Versioned works
  • In future, deploy queues for the ColorQube and WorkCentre  with separate GPOs as well, go desktop by desktop and remove the locally-installed queues for said, and add those Computer objects to an OU containing the new GPOs to deploy them one by one
  • Live happily ever after never having to touch a PC again when it is time to upgrade drivers or replace the horrid ColorQube 9303 with a pretty AltaLink when our lease is up.

Here’s where I am at:

  • I did not have the plan distilled as completely as above when I started the following baby steps, but here goes
  • "First test case PC" has a locally installed Non-Versioned GPD version 5.469.9.0 PCL6 and PS driver each pointing at our Workcentre 3550 and ColorQube 9303 (4 existing queues total)
  • Using Active Directory User and Computers, I created a new Organizational Unit (OU) named XeroxGpdQueues subjugate to the “Computers” Built-In OU
  • Moved the computer object for said test case PC from Computers OU to XeroxGpdQueues
  • I installed the Print Management Role on our Server 2008 R2 management server VM
  • Installed the Non-Versioned PCL6 and PS Global Print Drivers (v 5.520.6.0) on the (now) print server
  • Configured the Advanced tab | Printing Defaults the way I wanted all the drivers on the network to be deployed (1 sided, ID print on banner page)
  • From the Print Management console, shared them, with “render print jobs on client PCs” and “List in the directory” checked.
  • The first time, I did it to my own pc and was not using the GPO method, I did it by doing Add Printer, Add network Printer, and selected it from the directory.
  • Everything seemed to work ok using that method
  • After that, I tried said  "First Test Case" on a PC with a very simple and relatively new windows image on it.
  • From "the Print Management console, right clicked on each B405 printer and selected Deploy using Group Policy
  • This created a new GPO which I placed in the XeroxGpdQueues OU
  • GPO is per PC and not per User
  • Rebooted the test case computer which now resides in the XeroxGpdQueues OU
  • Printer icons show up after some delay in Devices and Printers, printer connectoid changes to Xerox GPD icon after some time
  • Once the new MFC driver GPO deployment completed the local queues for the ColorQube and WorkCentre were automatically upgraded from 4.3x to 5.520.x
  • This one happened to work, it got the new drivers, and all the defaults were there, all of the pulldowns were present in the print preferences dialog box.

I began adding other PCs to the XeroxGpdQueues

  • On a couple of the PCs one of them, say the PS queue’s, printer icon changed to the blue and white Xerox GPD one, but the PCL6 stayed as the default windows 7 one.
  • Neither of the queues (PS or PCL6) picked up the Printing Defaults I set
  • On both PCS, neither queue’s print preferences dialog box showed the picture of the VersaLink B405 yet nor did they have all the pull down boxes for 1 or 2 sided etc
  • Even if I removed them from the OU and rebooted, noticed the printer queues were gone, and then added them back to the OU and watched them re-deploy, the exact same conditions came up.
  • Another one seemed to pick all of it up and the driver completely deployed

I figured that the standard Windows Print Management method:

(the settings made in  "Advanced | Printing Defaults" dictates initial print preferences are set for GPO deployed printers)

might not work with Xerox and that is why the XML tool exists

So I tried using the XML method (thank you again)

  • Assuming that the string for "Printer Model" described in the XML tool documentation refers to the text you see when you open the GPD driver printer properties Dialog box, Advanced Tab, About | About, I followed the steps in the XML tool documentation to the letter.
  • I Found the same variability in how complete the drivers installed and instantiated themselves
  • This would stay in said state in most cases across reboots of the PCs in questions
  • In some cases, running the troubleshooter on a recalcitrant print queue, WITHOUT taking any of the suggested actions in the troubleshooter, would bring up the full feature set of pulldowns and the picture of the printer on the general tab in the print preferences dialog, but it still would not pick up the defaults I set.
  • I had the CacheExpirationInMinutes set to 0 to make sure the driver was referencing the XML repository every time the dialog box was opened.
  • I had all the preferences Setting Restrictions set to "default", rather than either of the two enforced options

Remaining questions

  • I am wondering if there is something inherently broken in the Server 2008 R2 Print management role and/or Group Policy processing which cuts off the deployment before all the data and remote commands get a chance to process the instantiation of the driver and the defaults?
  • Is this something to do with the Xerox drivers and the conditions I described being a unique case? (in other words if there were no Xerox printers on any of the PCs to begin with, would the b405 deployment have worked with either the Microsoft or the Xerox XML methods in all cases?
  • Is the presence of Symantec Endpoint Protection a known conflictor with GPO deployment of these drivers?

What to do next?

  • Even assuming I stop troubleshooting and looking for a root cause and just punt and manually get everything righted: IE: All the ColorQube and WorkCentre locally installed Non-Versioned and Versioned drivers uninstalled manually (including the packages), and re-deployed via Print Managment / GPO (into PCs which now will already have the same driver version)
  • I really am afraid of a situation where I add a 4th Xerox device, at a time when the GPD driver is newer than what is currently deployed.. Is the combination of having to both: replace the GPD driver AND deploy a new queue on the target PC just too much for the Group Policy mechanism to handle to completion?
  • I am feeling like I could remove one varialble from this scenario by first installing (on the print server) the new driver as a second instatiation of the PCL6 and PS B405 print queues using the Non-Versioned GPD driver. This will propagate the driver to the existing server instantiations of the B405 which are shared, and will spill down to all the PCs in the environment. I would clean things up by subsequently deleting the extra instantiations
  • Any thoughts on any of this would be greatly appreciated. I think I will add some tags to this post to increase the audience as well.

In searching on the issue, I had found some stuff pertaining to windows 10 clients and windows 2012 (not R2) clients not propagating the defaults and it had something to do with some basic dll’s that are used for PS and or PCL printing being of differing versions on the client and server OSes, etc.

Could not find that particular Microsoft KB again, but here are some discussions that seem to be nebulous at best in terms of what is really going on when this happens

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/a6e8ad20-3cc2-4137-897f-e92bd5405b9f/...

BTW I want the drivers to be deployed on a per PC basis so any user on that PC will have the printer available, rather than per user, but I even tried doing it per user to try to get the problem to go away and it either did nothing or complicated things.

Anyway, I need to post this now because I have been editing it for two days trying to make it as succinct as possible, but this stuff is never simple to explain.

Again, thanks to Joe for all the help and thanks in advance to any who might be able to help me with this issue.

Chris.

Crystal Reports V8

I have a new municipal gov't customer trialing a WC7556 using the Universal driver due to my low bid on a RFP for 10 copiers. All Microsoft printing works fine but they are using one application called Crystal Reports V8 from SAP.  Current version is V16 but the customer cannot upgrade at this time.

The application seems to be overriding the Print Driver as we set the printing prefernces to Black in both Print Preferences and the Advanced tab under Printing defaults.  When printing from Crystal Reports the unwanted color function keeps reappearing.

I realize that if the customer would upgrade their old version of Crystal Reports this problem would go away but the customer is insistent that they cannot upgrade at this time.  They keep on saying that the function works properly on their HP and Kyocera MFPs.

I suggested that they try a generic HP driver but they declined.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

We have two Xerox Phaser 7400 printers. One of the printers is leaving a dusted toner pattern on the papers edge. This appears on 8.5"x11", 11"x17" & 12"x18" paper prints. (8.5", 17 & 18 paper lengths) The band or pattern is 2 inches wide and starts from the papers edge and gradually fades away.  Any idea what would cause this issue?

Xerox 7830 - How to disable Bi-Directional Communication on macOS Sierra by default?

$

 Hi,

I am having hard time dealing with Xerox 7830 and macOS Sierra. By default Xerox driver (downloaded from Xerox or from Apple) enables Bi-Directional Communication under "Xerox Features". When I disable it myself and save settings as a new preset, Bi-Directional communication still stays on when I try to print from another app. Basically settings are getting saved "per app", not system-wide. How can I permanenty disable Bi-Directional Communication? I tried changing default settings with CUPS and there is no such option, it doesn't exist in PPD.

Thank you

ColoeQube 8580 doesn't revert back to standard paper size when printing an envolope

This is my second ColorQube - the first was an 8570, which I owned for 5+ years.  They both seem to have the same problem., namely, when I print an envelope, once the envelope is printed, I keep getting the message the tray I just used to print the envelope is out of paper.  Once I've printed the envelope, I go back to using standard 8-1/2 by 11 inch paper, but there doesn't seem to be anything that tells the printer I've done so.  The answer I've found is to just cancel printing via the control panel.  That seems very non-intuitive. and. it would seem to me, there has to be a way to get the printer to switch at least semi-automatically.  Anyone have an answer?

XML Configuration Editor - "Printer Model Name" definition?

$

Hi all,

I am trying to deploy three printers thusly:

  • Server-Based shared on 2008 R2 PrintManagement Server
  • Non-Versioned Xerox Global Print Driver
  • XML Configuration Editor method for setting Printer Preference Defaults
  • Standard Defaults (Listed as Default in pull-down menu) only (set at deployment time, not enforced going forward)

The PDF Customer Tip: (SFTHT-01U.pdf)

Xerox® XML Configuration Editor for Print Drivers
Dated December 19, 2016, states:

<snip>

Printer Model Name
This can be the name of a specific printer model or it may contain any number of wildcard characters * anywhere in the string to match multiple printer models with a similar name. The order of these printer model configurations in the list is significant. If two or more configurations apply to a printer model then the configuration settings encountered first in the list will override any conflicting settings lower in the list

<snip>

I have not had much success with the defaults propagating thus far.

My question is: What is the "Printer Model Name"?

Where is it defined?

If I have to match on the exact text of a model name, where can I find the model name's specific spelling / characters?

That is not addressed in the document.

As far as I understand it is NOT matched against the queue name.

I have tried installing the driver on the server and then

right clicking the printer icon | Select "printer properties" | Configuration Tab | About | About | About button

which brings up this:

XeroxDialogCQ9303.jpg

So, my inital Printer Model name was ColorQube 9303* in the XML configuration.

This should have covered both the PCL6 and PS queues I had deployed

That did not work.

The documentation does not explicitly state that you can have a leading wildcard, but I tried it also:

*ColorQube 9303*

That also did not work.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the exact text I should be matching on?

Thanks

Chris.

Xerox Phaser 7500 printing dots

Hi,

We are printing on a Xerox phaser 7500.

We are using this to print on full colour black on various card/paper.
Once printed the printed items are then passed under a hot foil machine which attaches metallic foil to the printed areas only (toner).
We are printed in full colour CMYK with all set to 100% (which we have to print at for the foil machine requirements)
When the printed items are passed under the foil machine, the foil is attaching to a full page of dots, which appear to be in a consistent pattern (a little like a dot matrix type of pattern).
This means that the printer is printing these dots on the paper/card.
The dots do not appear to the naked eye but are there as the foil will only attach itself to toner.
This started happening when we printed on glossy labels, but has now started happening on all cards/papers.
Can anyone help with how this can be resolved as we cannot have these dots appearing,

I have attached an image showing this pattern of dots.

Many thanks,

Simon.

Phaser 8560MFP - Stuck in Reboot Loop

$

Hi,

I have an 8560DN that starts, passes self tests, initializes, displays Xerox screen, moves to Warmup message - then quits and reboots to startup. I am running a Mac with Sierra. Xerox print driver version 3.123.0. (installed following forum directions to clear all old driver data before installing) After researching this forum I have tried:

1. the network cable remove-replace-restart multiple times

2. tried to get the service menu up to clear vram, with no success (tried back-help buttons and up-ok buttons, held during Xerox screen).

I know that the network cable is ok because I can access the printer webpage during the startup process and change parameters. The printer just doesn't register them before the reboot starts.

As I continued to look for solutions on the forums, there was a solution that suggested a postscript error and that clearing the vram may solve it. I also discovered that there is a firmware upgrade for PS 4.17 and my printer has PS 4.10.0. This is why I think there is a postscipt file hanging the unit.

This unit was purchased in 2009 and when my company went out of business they gave it to me. it has less than 15,000 prints through it. This is probably the best color printer out there. The solid ink technology has great color and is easy to use. Update the drivers, (and make the process simple) spread the word, and everyone will want one! But not until you help me fix mine!

Thanks,

Robert
